ACM Awards: Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert & Lady A Own the Night

(from Billboard.biz, April 2, 2012)Sunday, April 4th was the 47th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards. It took place at the MGM Grand Las Vegas. There were the usual winners, and a couple of surprises.

Taylor Swift took home Entertainer of the Year. When she went up for her speech, she thanked her fans and fellow nominees. She then mentioned her date for the evening, 18 year old cancer patient Kevin McGuire, and how he was hospitalized and could not make the ACM awards.

Miranda Lambert received Female Vocalist for the Year, and Album of the Year for “Four the Record.” Lady Antebellum received Vocal Group of Year.

Kelly Clarkson and Jason Aldean won Best Single Record and the Vocal Event of the Year for their song “Don’t You Wanna Stay.” Toby Keith was honored with Video of the Year for his hit “Red Solo Cup.”

Some surprise award winners included Thompson Square’s Vocal Duo of the Year and the Eli Young Band’s Song of the Year for “Crazy Girl.” Scotty McCreery, an America Idol winner, took home New Artist of the Year.

The 2012 ACM Awards were hosted by Reba McEntire and Blake Shelton. They joked about Peyton Manning, Randy Travis, and Miranda Lambert, wife to Blake Shelton. He mentioned her comments on Chris Brown’s performance at the Grammy’s.

The performances for the evening included Carrie Underwood singing “Good Girl,” Chris Young singing “Save Water, Drink Beer,” and Sara Evans singing “My Heart Can’t Tell You No.”

The stronger vocalists of the night included Zac Brown with “Keep Me in Mind,” The Band Perry with “Postcard from Paris,” and Brad Paisley who also showed off his guitar skills with “Camouflage.” He then put on a toboggan hat and sang “Whiskey’s Gone” with Zac Brown.

Some stars who made an appearance were none other than Marc Anthony, Bono, Kiss, and Ashton Kutcher.  end of article dingbat
